A brief history of our company
The husband-and-wife team of Hana and Milan Havlín set up the PRESTO translation agency in 1990. Originally a small family business, Milan was responsible for translating, interpreting, and proofreading other translators’ work, while Hana oversaw day-to-day operations, kept the books and, on top of all this, took care of their family.
Just two years later, we had become a proper translation agency with five employees, a solid translator base, and a quickly expanding portfolio of regular clients.
Another three years further down the line, and PRESTO had emerged as a leading translation agency in the Czech Republic.
We also operate in Slovakia, having opened an office in Bratislava in 2008.
As time went on, PRESTO’s long-term contracts with foreign clients earned it recognition as one of the most prestigious translation companies in Central Europe.
Language services
We translate into more than 40 foreign languages. Our expertise goes beyond translations from/into Czech, Slovak, English, German, French and Spanish, as we cater to demand for translations from/into Central and Eastern European languages (Polish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Croatian, Slovenian, Serbian), Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and many other languages.
Besides translation and interpreting, we offer a full range of other language services, including software and website localisation, proofreading, DTP services, language courses for companies and the general public, and subtitling and audio/video services in our very own studio.
Every day, we process over 70 orders for translations and interpreting and translate over 1,000 pages of text.
Our offices at Na Příkopě 31 in the heart of Prague are open on business days from 8.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. By agreement, we can also handle urgent translations at weekends.
Our translators
We work with more than 4,000 external translators, proofreaders and interpreters.
With translators specialising in all manner of fields, we are able to translate texts as wide ranging as complex legal and contractual documentation, advertising and promotional content, specialist manuals and technical documentation running to many hundreds of pages.
We have 15 in-house translators and proofreaders at our Prague branch.
Quality and confidentiality
Our priority is translation quality. Each and every translation undergoes thorough quality control. The quality of our services and processes is ISO 9001 certified and we also hold an ISO 17100 translation quality certificate.
We pay a great deal of attention to confidentiality and data protection. Our information security system is ISO 27001 compliant and is regularly certified by an independent auditor.
Our customers
To date, we have provided services to more than 30,000 customers.
Our long-term partners include a wide range of Czech and international companies in industry, trade and services. Foreign customers generate more than 50% of our turnover.
EU institutions feature prominently among our customers. We have long-term contracts to provide translation services to the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Social and Economic Committee and the European Court of Justice.
